CAPTAIN FALCON Amiibo Guide

CAPTAIN FALCON
AVERAGE TIER

While you may think Falcon is easy to play for most, what you teach him doesn't always seem to translate over so well. My friend is a Falcon main, so I had him train the Falcon amiibo when I first got it and he doesn't really play much like him. Idk if it was the training method or the AI but he doesn't seem to retain information as well as others and will prioritize some things you didn't even teach him to do. A flaw of his is, Falcon loves to use his Falcon Punch a lot, and since he starts doing it at level 1 it's going to be hard to get him to stop. (NOTE: Later on he does manage to read rolls and land the punch on occasion) The more you punish him on this, the less he will do it, so it's not a major issue. I'm gonna say he's average because I have had to retrain him twice and I've noticed he has trouble getting kills sometimes against other fast moving amiibos and evasive amiibos. He also gets counter gimped a lot by jumping off after them and getting foot stooled, so I wouldn't suggest teaching him to gimp too much, his gimping isn't very strong and his AI gets noped a lot. Keep him on the stage, focus grabs and aerials as well as B moves and he should turn out pretty good. Just do everything in moderation or he may become spammy. His positives are his ability to move across the stage quickly and hit very hard. His damage can turn around a match in an instant. Falcon is well worth putting effort into if you like the character, he may take a little more work though to be great.

PROS:
  • Fast and hits hard
  • Great Aerials
  • Great B Moves
  • Fairly Heavy for a Fast Character
  • True Combo
  • Kill Throw
CONS:
  • Struggles vs Fast/Evasive Characters
  • Will Falcon Punch even if you don't use it in training
  • Trouble landing sweet spotted Knees
  • Weak gimping will lead to him killing himself or just failing at it, not worth training
  • Weak Recovery
TRAINING MUSTS:
  • Utilize all aerials, show him he can kill with these
  • Grab often and pummel your grabs
  • Try to teach him down throw combos, will definitely down throw to side b at low percents. I think Down Throw into Knee around 60-80% is a possibility as well
  • Utilize all tilts
  • Use B moves sparingly, show him he can kill with side b
  • THE KNEE, teach him to kill with the knee
  • Ledge Guard with Up Tilt
  • Show him how to kill with all smash attacks, do not overuse these, he can become spammy
  • Avoid using Falcon Punch, it's already hard coded into him, it's super laggy and will get him punished a lot if he gets into a habit of using it. If he's using it even though you didn't train him to, you cant help this, it's hard coded into him.
  • Back Throw at the ledge can kill at pretty high percents. Worth teaching.

  1. I honestly think Falcon's amiibo was improved upon over time. Mine lands knees no problem, and up tilts with scary accuracy.

    1. I will be reevaluating them all as time progresses. I took a break for a little while so I'm hoping some of the older amiibos have improved. Sorry for the delayed response! :/
