MEGA MAN Amiibo Guide

MEGA MAN
VERY STRONG TIER

He's much better than I initially thought. He has very strong smash attacks and good range. He can kill with his back throw which is a definitely plus and he's got good aerial attacks. The problem with Mega Man is that his close range game isn't as strong as other amiibos so against certain match ups he really struggles.I suggest focusing on his grab game and smash attacks as well as projectiles at far range. I don't see any specific issues with this amiibo other than just knowing the character. I've heard of people having issues with training him as well to where he runs around and doesn't attack much. Focus on his ranges. Make sure he learns mid range, long range and short range options. His smash attacks are terror for other amiibos when he knows how to read them well. He is a top contender in my tournaments and is consistently winning matches against my strongest amiibos. I think one thing you really have to teach him is to grab when they run in on him. My Mega Man grabs like crazy to keep them away and approaches with his forward air, keeping good distance while racking up damage. All of his projectiles are great but I'd focus more on his saw blade than the sticky bombs. The amiibos rarely are in a position to take damage from the bombs. They either roll out of the damage or shield it. Overall I think he is amazing and I think he has some of the strongest smash attacks out of any amiibo.

PROS:
  • Amazing Smash Attacks
  • Lots of Projectiles
  • Ranged Smash Attack
  • Kill Throw
  • Racks up damage easily
CONS:
  • Weak close range against rush down
  • His jab sucks IMO
  • Likes to throw his saw blade in the air at an angle even if they are on the ground, I guess he's trying to read them with it.
  • Squishy
  • Side B hardly ever works on amiibos
TRAINING MUSTS:
  • Teach him to kill with all Smash Attacks and Ledge Guard with F Smash
  • Use Saw Blade and Leaf Shield at range to rack up free damage
  • Teach him to kill with his up air on high percent enemies
  • Utilize all aerials, back air kills easy and up air kills as well if he lands it
  • Focus grabs and pummel them
  • Teach him to kill with back throw

  1. How bout Customs? Mega Man (or MegaRed, as I named mine) has a pretty good array of customs. Mine uses a 1223 set.
