DIDDY KONG Amiibo Guide

DIDDY KONG
STRONG TIER

Here's the thing with Diddy. I'd love to put him into the Very Strong tier but he does have a few flaws holding him back. He's strong as hell and this amiibo is scary good IF you train him right. DO NOT train him to try to gimp off the stage. His down air is laggy and even with his fast back and forward air it all comes down to his recovery. If he tries to gimp off the stage he almost always dies for it. Teach him how to do the long charge up b or he will SD a lot. Another issue is if you get caught in his jabs too much or jab him too much he will get in a habit of spamming it. I've also seen him get in a habit of spamming his down smash as well. This amiibo requires you to show him a bunch of different options and a bunch of different ways to kill. Judging from how bad the Level 9 Diddy Kong ai is, I do not recommend training him at low levels vs the level 9 Diddy Bot (EVER). It sucks really bad and will teach him some unneeded habits. Just train him yourself at least up to 20, then have him fight other amiibos or your mains, whatever you do to level them. I was worried about how good the amiibo was going to be judging how bad the level 9 cpu is, but he's actually really good. My Diddy knows how to use his banana really well and will punish trips. He has strong aerials and will do down throw combos at low percents. If you train him on platform stages it's easier for him to land his up airs. If they have blown an air dodge or standing on a platform above him, he does go for them. But from what I've gathered, he isn't going to up air unless he knows it will hit.

PROS:
  • Quick and Hits Hard
  • Great Aerials
  • Has long-mid-short range options
  • Will utilize his banana to trip opponents
  • True Combo at Low Percent
CONS:
  • Recovery can be gimped easily
  • Bad off stage options
  • Can become spammy if you are not careful
TRAINING MUSTS:
  • Show him how to recover low
  • Take advantage of his peanut gun at range
  • Use his command grab, but sparingly
  • Do not attempt to gimp with this amiibo, he will just kill himself when he tries it every time
  • Show him down throw combos at low percent
  • Show him how to kill with all aerials
  • Use all aerials regularly
  • Teach him how to use the banana and try to teach him how to punish it with a smash attack
  • Teach him to kill with all smash attacks
  • Focus grabs and always pummel

  1. actually, i got him to form a habit of constantly trying to gimp off stage, and it does not make him bad.

    1. The problem was that if he is in 100%+ he would fastfall it and die every time in that percent range. That's why I advised against it. I'm not sure if they fixed this or not but it used to be a problem. I don't teach them gimping anymore because of that so I'm not sure if it's been fixed.
