SAMUS Amiibo Guide

SAMUS
WEAK TIER

Sad day for Samus Fans. This amiibo is abysmally bad in so many ways. Her skill set is a massive detriment for her when pitted against any other amiibo. She is so slow and laggy, the chances of her landing anything on another amiibo is next to none. Everything about her is laggy, her projectiles, her aerials, her smash attacks, her roll, even her grab. Amiibos just roll around her and win trades left and right until she has no stocks left. She can't do anything with her base moveset, so if you really want to make this amiibo work I suggest feeding her lots of equipment or giving her custom moves. I honestly can't think of any positives that she brings to the table. Her up smash would be good but she's so tall the hitbox goes over a lot of amiibo's heads. Her projectiles are her best moves but I couldn't get her to force an air dodge with a rocket and blast them with her neutral b. The AI can't comprehend the combos it requires to make Samus work. So if you want an amiibo that jumps around and gets punished for everything she does, by all means, pick up a Samus Amiibo! You may have more luck if you plan on fighting her yourself, but to be fair, she really isn't even that hard to beat at 50 in a Samus ditto, she's probably the easiest amiibo to beat. Congratulations Donkey Kong, there is actually an amiibo worse than you, you're off the hook!

PROS:
  • Drops mines to cover her tracks, the only damage she ever lands lol
  • True Combo with Down Throw to F Air, but landing the grab is difficult
  • Can have success in FFA/Team Matches, more opporunities for her to land abilities
  • Very Heavy

CONS:
  • Weak B Moves, trouble landing them
  • Weak Smash Attacks,  trouble landing them
  • Weak Grab, can't land it
  • Weak Roll, get's punished constantly in it
  • Weak Aerials, doesn't land them
  • No Kill Throw

TRAINING MUSTS:
  • Give her custom moves, the only chance you will ever have making her good is with customs
  • Teach her to full charge her neutral b at range
  • Utilize her side b at range
  • Harrass with Neutral B off stage, this is the only place she will really land it on other amiibos
  • Utilize aerials, show her she can kill with back air and neutral air
  • F Air is laggy, use it sparingly
  • She can combo Down Throw into F Air, the grab is difficult to land and she's gonna get punished for trying to grab too much
  • The only character I wouldn't suggest grabbing and pummeling often on
  • Utilize all Smash Attacks, show her she can kill with them
  • Up B kills, but I've never seen her use it on stage

  1. I had some success with Samus. Try using a fighting environment with many enemies on a small stage, to discourage defense, and increase the damage ratio to 2.0 to encourage KO-level attacks.

I found using 4 player Yoshi's island 3DS was effective in helping her become more aggressive, use more projectiles (as almost all shots fired struck an enemy, resulting in a high success percent) and focus on KO-capable attacks.

All the same, I couldn't get the AI to use Screw Attack offensively. I think it would need to fight on a very vertical stage, but this would discourage projectiles.

    Good luck improving your approach.

    1. Awesome! Glad to hear you've had success with her. Just wanted to ask you a few questions before I put her through a retraining process. Do you feed her equipment or use any Custom Moves? What would you say is her Win Percentage vs other amiibos? Does she struggle in 1v1 fights when she wins or does she have the potential to dominate a 1v1? Are there certain matchups she really struggles with? (IE Rushdown or Projectiles, etc) What are her strategies in beating other amiibos in a 1v1? I will use this information to train her in these areas and see if it helps. Thank you! :)

    2. i actually got my samus amiibo to be good. I managed to make her a force to be reckoned with, because she always fires her charge shot at random.

    3. Is this against you or against amiibos J Gamer?

  2. I did not feed that Samus any equipment. She had no custom moves. Her win rate for Time was average, but her win rate for Stock was well above average, near 65%. She does not do as well in 1v1 matchups.
I think Samus's optimal fight strategy, which is to harass, turtle and run away, do not come as naturally to the Amiibo, so it takes much longer for Samus to develop, unless you encourage it through relatively smart design.
This Samus was reset, for the sake of looking for a Screw-Attack capable Samus. Keep up the great work.

    1. I tried this strategy, she does okay in ffa's like you said but she definitely struggles more than any amiibo in 1v1s. I just feel like there aren't any ways to make her a great amiibo sadly :/.

Thank you for the suggestions Wizard! She did improve, Let me know if you figure out anything else! :)

  3. Everything, and I mean everything you say here is (unfortunately) true. Let me tell you a quick story:

My Samus Amiibo almost always loses against my other Amiibo in straight 1vs1 and even FFAs, more often than not ranking 6th or 7th out of the seven I currently own. Seeing this as a challenge, I decided to train her against my best Amiibo, Mario, who has proven himself to be an unholy killing machine.

    Fast Special Smash
    Stage: Battlefield
    Match: 99 Stock
Items: All non-damaging items (HP recovery, 1-up flag, Jet pack/tanuki tail, etc)

The intention was to prolong the battle as long as possible in a semi-normal environment (hence only using 'Fast' in special smash) in order to beat some combat expertise into her.
Long story short, when the whole thing ended five hours later, Mario still had 99 stocks remaining.
Now I know he used the flag at least once (probably several times), but the fact he was able to beat her in such a ridiculously over the top manner is just absurd considering they have a comparable amount of combat experience (Got them about the same time, no customs, no equipment).

Just thought you might like a first-hand account of how very right you are. :P

    1. It really bothers me too. I worked with her a lot and no matter what I did, it was just wasted time.

I'd love for all amiibos to be evenly matched but sadly that just isn't the case. Sorry you wasted so much time on the Samus Amiibo. Hopefully others won't have to suffer the same fate thanks to your accounts. LOL :P

Appreciate the support! Thanks for the information!

  4. With all the buffs Samus got in the 1.1.5 Patch, you should probably check up on her to see if she's any better.

  5. If Samus is so bad, then once I get her, it's time to experiment with customs.
