TOON LINK Amiibo Guide

TOON LINK
STRONG TIER

He's a good amiibo. He is great at mid range and he's fast enough to follow up on his projectiles if you train him to do so. Toon Link as an amiibo doesn't have the capabilities that Link has. His kill moves aren't quite as strong as Link's and he has trouble killing vs amiibo opponents. Sometimes characters that rush him down and can kill easy seem to give him trouble. Do not spam projectiles or he will play very evasive and try to get away from you so he can shoot projectiles. He also has a problem with pulling out bombs and not throwing them. Idk if they learn not to do this. When being compared to Link as an amiibo you have to think about it this way.. amiibo fights are very evasive and there are certain amiibo that have lingering hitboxes that punish amiibo for air dodging. While Link has an Up Smash that does this, Toon Link doesn't. Link also has a lot of options that he can kill easily with, while Toon Link doesn't. Toon Link racks up damage a bit faster but if he can't finish the stock then I feel he struggles and I don't consider him to be as strong as others. Toon Link's major kill option is to back throw at the ledge after pummeling. Toon Link definitely excels in Team/FFA Matches, more so than most of the amiibos in the game. I think Toon Link is strong, just not as strong as some of the others. He is definitely worth putting the work into if you like the character.

PROS:
  • Quick and Small
  • Racks up damage quickly
  • Has a wide range of projectiles to get free damage with
  • Kill Throw
  • Excels in Team/FFA Matches
CONS:
  • Kill options are limited
  • Smash Attacks aren't as good as some other amiibos
  • Will hold on to bombs and not throw them
  • Will sometimes Up B over the Ledge into Punishes
TRAINING MUSTS:
  • Do not spam projectiles, it will ruin the amiibo
  • Make sure he knows his kill options
  • Focus Projectiles at Far Range, Grab at Mid Range, Smash and Jab at Close Range
  • Utilize Aerials, Forward Air Kills, Up Air Kills, Down Air Kills but I don't suggest using it often
  • Teach him to kill with his back throw
  • Up B can be decent at catching rolls on stage but if used too often he may start spamming it
  • Be careful with teaching z airs, amiibos punish missed z airs often
