LINK Amiibo Guide

LINK
VERY STRONG TIER

Link as an amiibo is a powerhouse. Link has so many kill options and IMO the damage boost he's given as an amiibo is insane considering he was already a killing machine. Link amiibo is evasive but aggressive when he needs to be. He will use projectiles at mid range and he will bait opponents into bad situations usually involving a smash attack. He has an upsmash with a lingering hit box which a lot of amiibos try to air dodge and end up getting hit by the end part of it. His punishes hurt and he racks up damage like crazy. That is why I feel he's a strong amiibo. Training him wrong could be a problem if you play far range and you abuse projectiles too much, he will become ultra evasive and he will run from one side of the map to the other whenever anyone gets near him. So be mindful not to spam projectiles too much when training your Link. On a side note, Link can have a problem with pulling out bombs and not throwing them. I've since retrained him and he no longer does this but it can happen so be careful. Also too much of his up b can lead him to up b randomly on the stage.

PROS:
  • His Up Smash is one of the most punishing amiibo skills in the game
  • Has Great Long/Mid/Short Range Options
  • Can kill extremely easy with almost anything
  • Long Range Grab allows him to play extra safe when he needs to
  • Multiple Projectiles to rack up damage without being punished
  • True Combo
  • Kill Throw
CONS:
  • Can turn out really bad if you abuse projectiles too much
  • Can turn out really bad if you Up B too much
  • Struggles with Rush Downs like Mario
  • Will sometimes pull a bomb and not throw it
  • Will sometimes Up B over the ledge into punishes
TRAINING MUSTS:
  • Links a little easier to train because all most all his moves can kill
  • Focus grabs
  • Use projectiles at far range but don't abuse them heavily
  • Make sure he knows to attack at short range/grab at mid range/projectile at far range
  • Too much of one thing will ruin this amiibo, trust me, you have to make him versatile
  • Have him kill with his Up Smash, it punishes amiibos really hard and they will keep falling into it.
  • Tilts are very strong, utilize them
  • Be careful with teaching z airs, amiibos punish missed z airs often
  • Will Down Throw to Up Tilt at Low Percents
  • Can kill with Up Throw at very high percents, teach him to do this

  1. Would this guide apply with custom specials as well?

    1. For the most part, there may be a few differences in the AI's personality with customs, but I doubt it would be extremely noticeable.

    2. With some amiibo, there are differences.
