LUIGI Amiibo Guide

LUIGI
STRONG TIER

If you know how to play the character, your Luigi amiibo will turn out great. He is a relentless aggressor and is good at evading damage, he's super fast and he hits really hard. The things that you need to look out for when training Luigi is don't randomly side b in the air unless you are off the stage trying to recover Luigi can learn this as a bad habit and randomly side b in the air for no reason, leading into a punish. His AI is pretty smart, so considering I personally am not a Luigi Player, it's good that he doesn't require a lot of work. He has seen nerfs in recent patches that seems to have had an effect on him as an amiibo. I really don't feel like he's as strong as he once was. I still think Luigi can hold his own in the strong tier because his skill set still racks up a good amount of damage, he doesn't have a lot of lag on his aerials and he is pretty good at not getting hit as often as others. You may see him struggle against stronger amiibos but he can still put up a fight. If you like Luigi, he's worth putting the effort into.

PROS:
  • Strong Combos
  • Hits very hard
  • Can Rack Up Damage Quick
  • Has Long Range and Short Range Options
  • Kills with Up B often
  • Great Aerials have almost 0 lag
  • Kill Throw
  • True Combo
CONS:
  • Weak Recovery
  • Naturally uses Up B even if you don't teach it, if he misses it's easily punished
  • Randomly will Side B in the air so you have to be careful not to use it much in training
  • He Slides when Hit, can mess up his counter attack capabilities
  • Can become very spammy with his Down B
  • Struggles in Team/FFA Matches
TRAINING MUSTS:
  • Down Throw is Bread and Butter for the amiibo, lots of true combo options
  • Do not down b when training, he will spam it if you use it too much
  • Use fireballs at far range
  • Focus on aerials
  • Focus on grabs
  • Teach him to True Combo with Down Throw to Up Air/Neutral Air at lower percents
  • Teach Him to Kill with Back Throw
  • Don't try to kill with Up B too often, you could cause him to spam it which can lead to issues
  • Utilize all smash attacks and show him he can kill with them

  1. I really thought my Luigi was the only one that use Side B at whatever moment.

  3. What if I had a level 50 Mario Amiibo. Could I just use that has Luigi's trainer instead of my skill? Just so you know, I'm a rather...subpar Luigi player and feel as though, although they are different in some areas, Mario and Luigi's similarities outweigh the differences.

    1. Mario Amiibo could effectively train pretty much any amiibo if you aren't good at them. He's great, and he tends to be very easy to train and not require a lot of work to turn out well.

  4. These tips were very useful, but I have a problem I need help with. At LV 30, my Luigi uses downB far too much. Any way I can reverse that w/out reseting LV?

    1. Sorry for the delayed response. I think if he's spamming it, it's because he's having more success with that move than others in racking up damage. I think they tend to be drawn more to strategies that are not as easy for their opponents to counter.. (They basically abuse skills if it works for them.) My advice would be to place him against some of your best "fast" amiibos like a Mario or Lucina.. Amiibos that will punish him for spamming moves will eventually push him into trying other options... Hope that helps! If it doesn't, sometimes there comes a time where you need to reset them and try again.. In that case, make sure he doesn't land that skill often and I'm sure he won't use it as much.
