ROSALINA & LUMA Amiibo Guide

ROSALINA & LUMA
VERY STRONG TIER

Rosalina is a great amiibo and can counter a lot of other amiibos just because of her mechanic with Luma blocking so much damage for her. That being said, i feel you kind of have to know how to play her to get the most out of her. She has some intricate details in her playstyle that need to be honed in on to make her the best amiibo she can be. You have to train her to use Luma or it will just sit there and do nothing when she separates from it. I have actually trained my Rosalina to combo into Luma and smash attack or just jab punish while she's separated from it. Teach her to up air combo early on. Rosalina is an awesome counter to a lot of Top Tier amiibos if she is trained properly. But sadly this is a big if. I think Rosalina is one of the hardest amiibos to train, but turns out VERY good if you do it right. Rosalina can learn a bad habit where she sends off Luma and leaves her a good distance away, not realizing she needs her at her side. This can leave her very vulnerable and sometimes ruin her all together. The cause of this imho is teaching her to kill with Neutral B or rack up damage using that skill. I would suggest not using it aggressively or she may learn this habit of sending off Luma for damage rather than keeping her close for protection. She used to be one of my best amiibos because so many of them struggled to get past Luma but I think changes to Luma in past patches making her easier to kill have put a damper on the amiibo as well. I suggest that you don't aerial too much because they are slow and can get her punished a lot, use your luma and make sure she uses grabs. Her biggest weakness is in FFA/Team Matches, she is very vulnerable because of her squishiness and will take a lot of hits from behind because Luma only protects her from the front. I haven't noticed her effectively win in those matches, but in 1v1's she really shines so if that is your focus, Rosalina will be well worth getting. Rosalina's AI naturally plays pretty defensively, so I suggest a lot of grab options and spacing to get the most out of her.

PROS:
  • Her Luma mechanic is a good shield that a lot of amiibos cant deal with effectively
  • She has very strong attacks and can kill easily
  • Having Luma connected to her gives her extra range and is good at keeping opponents away
  • Can smash attack with Luma without even being near her opponent
  • Can ledge guard with Luma off the stage
  • Strong in 1v1s
  • Can absorb projectiles
  • Kill Throw
CONS:
  • Very squishy when Luma isn't there to protect her
  • Is somewhat hard to train if you don't know how to play her
  • Isn't as good in team battles or free for all battles because she has more trouble covering her flank
  • Can become a worthless amiibo if she isn't trained to use Luma efficiently
  • Too Much Separation from Luma can ruin this amiibo, don't do it too often
  • Can become spammy with her Neutral B which is the last thing you want, don't use it often
TRAINING MUSTS:
  • Your main focus will be using Luma.
  • Teach her how to Jab with Luma and Smash with Luma disconnected from her.
  • Use her neutal b sparingly because you want to keep Luma with her, not leave her vulnerable, she can get in a habit of always sending Luma out
  • Teach her to Up Throw into Up Air and how to kill with her Up Air.
  • She can kill with F Throw at the ledge at high percents.
  • Take advantage of her side b to rack up damage at mid range.
  • Use her down b to absorb projectiles, she learns to do this very well actually.
  • Her tilts are very good, especially down tilt.
  • Focus a lot on grabs so she can put opponents at a distance when they get close to her.
  • Utilize aerials but do not overuse them or she will spam aerials and this will make her weak
