NESS Amiibo Guide

OVERPOWERED TIER


Ness is the trap king of amiibos. He has a skill set that can place amiibos in terrible positions to get punished without even realizing they are about to take loads of damage. The Ness amiibo recovers perfectly and almost any attempt another amiibo takes to try and gimp him leads to getting hit by his up b as he goes for the ledge. Amiibos will not even attempt to ledge guard Ness, it's coded into them to roll back when he goes for the ledge. His timing on his pulse off the ledge is very good and he has caught countless amiibo with it as they try to recover high. As far as I can tell, Ness is one of the best at retaining what you teach him to do. He will combo off of his down throws constantly and combo off of his pk fires. Ness' only real weakness imo is that he struggles a bit in group fights. His strength seems to be in 1v1 situations. His performance in group battles is really hit or miss, he either wins hard or is the first one out. As a 1v1 fighter he almost never drops a match and he's insanely strong. Ness only really struggles vs. amiibos who counter. The Ness amiibo likes to up b bomb people on stage so when he gets countered for this, he really takes a lot of damage. I believe this amiibo is nearly unrivaled and has become an absolute terror. His kill throw makes him OP because he abuses it and it kills really early. On top of the this, he can up b amiibos on stage and they don't even shield it half the time like they don't recognize it's coming. Amiibos constantly fall into his PK Pulse off stage if they are recovering high as well. He's just TOO good, and if it comes to it, I may ban him from my tournaments if it starts becoming unbalanced.

PROS:
  • Most amiibos get caught in his traps without realizing whats about to happen
  • He combos very well
  • The AI Recovers Perfectly and it's ungimpable by amiibos
  • Great Aerials
  • Great Smash Attacks
  • Racks Up Damage Fast
  • Floaty and can be hard to hit
  • Excels in 1v1s
  • Best Kill Throw in the game, he abuses it hard
CONS:
  • May Struggle in Team/Free For All Matches
  • Sometimes will PK Thunder right into counters and get punished hard
  • Very Squishy
  • Can Struggle vs Amiibos with Counters
  • AI doesn't realize his Pk Thunder gets blocked by platforms.
TRAINING MUSTS:
  • Don't worry about his recovery, the AI does it perfectly and amiibos will not even attempt to ledge guard him
  • Teach him to Down Throw into Forward Air at low-mid percent
  • Teach him to PK Fire close range into Baseball Bat
  • Utilize all aerials
  • Teach him to kill with back throw at high percent, very important
  • Harass off stage opponents with PK Thunder
  • Teach him to use all Smash Attacks but don't overuse them
  • Teach him to spike with PK Thunder on Stage
  • Make sure to grab and pummel often

    2. One time I though playing rushdown/offensive would make my Yoshi amiibo be more aggressive. then I realized I did a terrible mistake.
